Further work in the pipeline

Early in 2015, crews are expected to complete about half the work on the first phase of a new wastewater pipeline that runs between Salmon Creek and Ridgefield, two outlying Vancouver suburbs.

Work is continuing on several areas of the project, which will carry wastewater to the Salmon Creek Treatment Plant from Ridgefield Junction. Officials believe it will be critical in attracting new business to the Vancouver region, and to Ridgefield.

The pipeline work means road disruption for drivers. Areas that will be affected include Northeast 10th Avenue, where a mile-and-a-half of pipeline is being installed. That will require the closure of a 10-foot-wide road section, though traffic will be able to pass the section in both directions.

Crews recently installed 600 feet of pipe on Northeast 20th Avenue, and the pavement will now have to be restored. Late in January, 300 feet of pipe is scheduled to be installed in Salmon Creek, in front of the Albertsons on Northeast 20th Avenue, which may necessitate closing entrances to the parking lot.

The multiphase project is on time and budget, with a final price tag of $25m. City officials might consider working with a postcard printing company to devise a mailer for residents, listing the work sites and letting them know of alternative routes to take should their roads be affected.
