Residents from Vancouver, Washington and throughout the area had an opportunity recently to take a look at various types of tiny houses.
No fewer than 17 of the small dwellings, along with eight school buses that had been converted to living quarters, were at the Clark County Fairgrounds recently. It was all part of the Tiny House Living Festival.
The tiny house movement has been growing for some time, as people consider the positive aspects of living in a home that averages 240 square feet. All of the homes on view at the festival could be moved—the tiny houses had wheels; the buses and van conversions began life as wheeled vehicles; and one teardrop trailer was designed to be pulled by car.
Visitors not only toured the miniature dwellings, but also listened to lectures about how to build a tiny house of their own, and the challenges of living in such a small space.
Some of the festival attendees were seriously considering building tiny homes of their own, while others, such as Mike Fuehrer and his friend Luke Witten, have already made the switch. They converted a school bus into a home with a full kitchen, a table that seats eight, and couches that serve as beds.
Still another attendee, Josh Urvant, said that ironically, going small has made his life bigger by freeing him from “stuff” he did not want or need.
