A traditional race is now on the schedule in Vancouver, with a twist.
The annual Race for Warmth, which is organized by Clark Public Utilities (CPU) on behalf of its Operation Warm Heart campaign, will go virtual this year. Thousands of people have traditionally taken part in the event, and it is hoped they will do so again, only individually.
On the weekend of the race, participants will be able to pick their own start time, as well as their finish line. They can ride a bike around their block, walk, run, pick out a route in their own neighborhood, pick a route from those on the CPU website, or even finish the race on their own treadmill.
Virtual race participants will receive some of the traditional “goodies,” including a packet with swag, a bib number, a shirt, and a medal for participating, which is new this year, and more. CPU would like people to take videos and photos of their individual races and share them.
Prizes will not be awarded this year. Instead, raffles are being held to and through race weekend. Those who participate will receive email instructions with details. People logging on to upload photos will find an attractive Logo Design on the CPU website.
Operation Warm Heart provides assistance to families in the local area who need help paying their heating bills in the winter.
Racers can participate any time from January 29-31, 2021, giving them an entire weekend to finish the event.
