Vancouver’s Generation Strength Gym will be holding a powerlifting competition between area men and women, dubbed the Clash on the Columbia.
The event will feature competition across two days, with each day featuring two weight classes. Saturday will feature a middleweight competition for men between 198 and 242 pounds, and a heavyweight category for those over 275 pounds. Sunday will have a contest between lighter men and one between women. Powerlifting competitions typically involve athletes competing to lift the most weight in three different styles of lift: squats, bench press, and deadlifts. The Clash on the Columbia has been sanctioned by the World Raw Powerlifting Federation.
Top finishers in each weight class will receive a cash prize as well as items provided by the gym and local sponsors. Participants can also contribute to a winner-take-all pot for the person who can lift the most total on each day.
The event is the first of multiple planned competitions for Generation Strength Gym, which is hoping it can become a hub of strength training and powerlifting in the region. Events like this typically use items like Promotional Products and prizes to encourage participation, with Clash on the Columbia providing a commemorative shirt.
The Clash on the Columbia will take place on November 6 and 7 at Generation Strength Gym. Registration is limited for each weight class.
