A Vancouver Elks lodge is holding a membership drive and has scheduled a fun event to encourage people to visit the lodge and learn about the organization.
The Elks are holding a “Retro Prom” and inviting everyone, lodge members and the public as well, to enjoy themselves. Attendees are invited to shake off the moths from their best tuxes and dresses from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s, and wear them to the dance. Whether the partygoers decide to relive their best days or reinvent themselves is up to them.
A full dinner is planned, and will start at 6:00 pm, while after dinner will see contests, photos, and dancing. A professional DJ with a great playlist will provide the music, and there will be a heads or tails game. In addition, people will be able to vote for prom queen or king.
The Elks emphasize that it is not necessary to have a date to attend the prom. Everyone is welcome, including singles and groups of friends. When this type of event is scheduled, organizers can use flyer printing to create handouts to advertise the evening.
The Retro Prom is set for June 4, from 6:00 pm until 11:00 pm, and is limited to those age 21 above. Those who do not have boutonnieres or corsages will be able to purchase them at the dance. Tickets are $35 each, and the venue is the Vancouver Elks 823 at 11605 SE McGillivray Boulevard.
