Vancouver is proud of its parks and the volunteers who maintain them. A new opportunity is now available to assist in a clean-up.
An Adopt-A-Park event will be held at John Ball Park, where volunteers will help beautify the park and give it the love their feel it deserves. The park is in downtown Vancouver and has swings, play equipment, picnic tables, a multi-use field, benches, and a half-court for basketball.
Organizers will provide snacks, water, tools, gloves, and most importantly, training. The event is family friendly, and people of all abilities and ages are welcome, especially teenagers. Volunteers should be prepared for any kind of weather, and are asked to wear closed-toed shoes and long pants. Many of the activities require kneeling on the ground, stooping, bending, and lifting more than 10 pounds. Staff at the Volunteer Program will try to make accommodation for those with difficulties who wish to participate. Organizers of events like this will often use flyer printing to create instruction sheets, if needed.
The outing is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, from 10.00 am until 12.00 pm. John Ball Park is on Kauffman Avenue. Since limited space is available, interested parties are asked to RSVP promptly. Minors under 18 must present a signed consent form. Registration will close at 2.00 pm on Thursday, February 1. Those who miss the window and would like to register may email cityvolunteer@cityofvancouver.us to let staff know they want to take part, and register at the event.
