Spokane Valley to buy store for public use

The former location of the White Elephant will be purchased by the City of Spokane Valley for $2.2m. The city is looking into converting the surplus store that once sold outdoor supplies and toys for a police station.

Ben Wick, mayor of Spokane Valley, said that this location will be an opportunity for the city to expand its operations for its public safety departments. He added that the City Council has not yet discussed specific uses for the three-acre site on which the White Elephant sits, but it will provide the flexibility the city needs as it is next to the precinct and offers an easy path for expansion. Flyer printing can be used to provide more details about the advantages of using such sites for these purposes.

Dave Ellis, Police Chief for Spokane Valley, said that the building in which his department currently operates is filled to capacity. He added that the use of this property for the police would give the department more storage space, more parking, and space for the officers the department will need to hire as the city grows.

Cary Driskell, Spokane Valley City Attorney, said that as the White Elephant property is next to the Spokane Valley Police Precinct, it would be a strategically convenient location for the city to plan for its law enforcement needs for the next 50 to 75 years.
