Linda Thompson, a Spokane Valley City Council member, was recently honored by the Association of Washington Cities (AWC), which awarded her a Certificate of Municipal Leadership.
The Association's leadership program recognizes elected officials in the state's towns and cities who have successfully completed ongoing training in four areas: responsibilities, roles, and legal requirements; resource management in the public sector; planning and development for the community; and effective leadership at the local level.
Peter B. King, the CEO of the Association, said towns and cities throughout Washington State are constantly evolving as laws change, which means officials need to respond to both new opportunities and new challenges. The leadership program devised by the AWC helps elected officials prepare themselves to understand the new legal environment, make plans for the future, manage resources, and build solid relationships.
King went on to say that those who win this award have demonstrated that they are committed to ongoing learning, and that they have a sincere desire to take new concepts back to their cities and towns. Thompson undertook community service, and finished over 30 hours of training to win the award. Agencies that present certificates like this might consider also presenting the honoree with Business Cards that reflect the honor.
The AWC was established in 1933, and is a nonpartisan, nonprofit, private corporate that represents communities throughout Washington State before regulatory agencies, and before the state executive branch, as well as its legislature.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
