Spokane Valley has new city hall

Although some offices in the new city hall in Spokane Valley have been open since September, an open house was held much more recently, on October 14, 2017. At that time, residents were invited to take tours of the facility.

The day started with the Boy Scouts raising the flag and leading visitors in the Pledge of Allegiance. Following that, Rod Higgins, the mayor of Spokane Valley, made a few remarks of welcome, and acknowledged those who had put so much effort into creating the new building. Then he and other officials presided over a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Following the official welcome, everyone was invited to have their picture taken as part of a community portrait, then enjoy self-guided tours of the facility.

Members of the city council and staff members were in the building to welcome visitors, and had information and displays about the city's services, projects, and programs available. Joining the city workers were representatives from other organizations important to Spokane Valley, such as the Heritage Museum.

Outside, visitors were able to examine three sculptures, which were donated to the new city hall by the Spokane Valley Arts Council. Also outside the building was a hands-on exhibit so that kids of all ages could climb on a fire truck, police cruiser, snow plow, and garbage truck.

Events like this can be even more fun if officials use festive Banners to decorate the venue.
