Spokane Valley improving parks and trails

Officials in Spokane Valley recently revealed that there will be improvements made to parks and trails in the city this spring and summer.

Last year, the Washington State Department of Commerce appropriated $539,320, which the city used to finish the amenities on the Pines Road to University Road section of the Appleway Trail, which was the first part of the trail to be built. The amenities added included a restroom located at University Road, a drinking fountain, trees, bike racks, and landscaping and grass that match the existing trail.

The next section of the Appleway Trail is expected to be built in 2020, between Sullivan Road and Evergreen Road.

This summer will see work done on Browns Park, which has been improved since 2014. In the past five years, Spokane Valley has installed a splash pad, as well as sixteen volleyball courts, one of which is a championship sand court. The Eagle Scouts provided another new court as part of a project.

Improvements to be made this summer include a renovated building to be used for storage, a skate dot for use by skateboarders, two picnic shelters (one small and the other large) new fences, a restroom, and a walking path that has good lighting. Brochure printing can be used to illustrate the amenities of attractions like this.

The work being done is in accordance with the Browns Park Master Plan developed in 2014.
