Spokane Valley gears up for major celebration

One of the city's biggest festivals is on the way to Spokane Valley.

Valleyfest 2020 is now on the schedule, bringing a number of events with it, to be held in various locations around the city. The fun kicks off with the Hearts of Gold Parade, which celebrates Spokane Valley residents who have “hearts of gold,” and give back to the city. The parade includes bands, floats, classic cars, clowns, custom cars, animals, and members of the Miss Spokane Valley court.

The parade route takes it down Sprague Avenue, which is closed to traffic. However, there are plenty of places to eat and watch the fun, directly on the parade route, including both local eateries and national chains.

Other events that are part of the festival include a triathlon, a duathlon, a 10K, a 5K, live entertainment on three stages, a car show, and a pancake breakfast.

One of the most unusual events is the Lions Club Bed Race, which is just what it sounds like—teams of participants, often costumed, push decorated beds down the racecourse. In the past, the race has brought out teams of witches in glowing green shoes, as well as undertakers pushing a casket. The Bed Race is a fundraiser for the Lions Club.

Valleyfest is free, and is scheduled for September 25, 26, and 27, with the parade on the first day. Banner printing can be used to mark courses at outdoor events like this.
