Spokane Valley celebrates economic development success

Spokane Valley is making a major effort to encourage economic development in the city, and is celebrating a recent success, as Katerra broke ground on a new facility in the city.

Katerra is a technology company that works with the construction industry, making timber products. Among its manmade items are Glulam and cross-laminated timber (CLT). Katerra's new facility will have a 250,000 square-foot footprint, and the company says it will bring many jobs to Spokane Valley, both at the plant and in associated industries such as engineering, design, and construction.

The Katerra site occupies 52 acres within 600 acres; the tract is bounded by Trent Avenue, Flora Road, the city limits, and the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad. Recently, a second company bought 39 acres adjacent to Katerra, and plans to put in a railroad spur to serve both companies. Spokane Valley worked with Spokane County to bring sewer lines to the area, and made improvements to local streets to make it easier for trucks to access the factories.

These developments are a result of the city's collaboration with businesses, service providers, and property owners, along with partnerships between it and the county, Greater Spokane, Inc., and the Washington State Department of Commerce.

Many people are interested in developments like this, so officials might consider working with a newsletter printing company that would help them create a letter disseminating information about progress.
