Something fishy going on in Spokane Valley

The Spokane Area Council of Square Dancers has organized the upcoming Salmon Barbecue Dinner Picnic on behalf of the Western Dance Center.

The facility is run entirely by volunteers, who are working at the center because they love square dancing and want more people to come and dance with them.

Foodies will be happy to know that Green Bluff applewood is the fuel that will be used to barbecue the fish, which will be cooked on a 50-foot moving grill. As the salmon moves down the line, “secret sauce” is used to coat it, making it flaky and flavorsome. The cooks say they have been barbecuing for 66 years.

In addition to the salmon, dinner will include baked beans, a green salad, potato salad, a dinner roll, and an ice cream cup. Iced tea, coffee, and milk will be provided to the diners, who will be sitting at picnic tables under the trees. The tables are placed on grass, so they are accessible to walker and wheelchair users with some assistance.

The Picnic is August 27, from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm, at Sullivan Park, adjacent to the Dance Center. Organizers of events like this will find they can use banner printing to create fun decorations. The parking and entertainment are free, and no reservations are required. Tickets are $17 for adults, $14 for seniors 65 and older, and $12 for kids.
