The Northwest BachFest offers four series of concerts, each lasting a week, in February/March, then May, again in August, and wrapping up in December. The highlight is a July concert outdoors in Manito Park in Spokane, next door to Spokane Valley.
This year, due to health concerns, concerts have been specially designed and will be presented on the BachFest YouTube channel, as part of its Across the Miles series. The upcoming series features pianist Matt Herskowitz, who will be presenting “Chopin Re-imagined and All Jazzed Up.” Herskowitz will be playing Frédéric Chopin's “Etudes,” but interpreting them through the lens of his original jazz arrangements.
Herskowitz is a native of Rensselaerville, New York, and a graduate of Philadelphia’s Curtis institute of Music as well as the famed Julliard School in New York City. Now living in Montreal, Herskowitz is both a composer and arranger, and has recorded several critically acclaimed CDs, as well as appearing at festivals around the world.
A review says:
“What made the concert extraordinary was Herskowitz’s beyond-brilliant technique. He was . . . astoundingly adept at impossibly fast and intricate passages... He also played the most wildly rhythmic rendition of Gershwin’s “I’ve Got Rhythm” that I’ve ever heard.”
The online concert is set for April 22, with the other performances on April 23, 24, 25, and 26. Flyer printing is often used to publicize events like this.
