A free event is scheduled in Spokane Valley that is sure to make people smile.
The Spokane Area Council of Square Dancers is inviting everyone—including those who claim to have several left feet and have never danced in their lives—to come and see how much fun square dancing can be. The council points out that there are no size, weight, age, or shape limits to those who want to learn to square dance, and everyone is welcome. Flyer printing can be used to create instruction sheets for participants at events like this.
All a square dancer needs to succeed is the ability to walk in time with the music, and follow the “Simon Says” prompts, which tell the dancers the next action to take. Square dancing is a perfect family activity and was developed in the United States.
Square dance is an American folk dance that gets its name from the initial starting position of the dancers. Four couples form a square, each couple taking one side. A “caller” elsewhere in the venue calls out a series of instructions for the dancers to follow, which they do, in a predetermined pattern.
The organizers do suggest participants bring more than one smile, because they are likely to wear out the first one. The “Free Intro to Square Dancing” event is scheduled for September 11, from 7.00 pm until 9.00 pm, at the Western Dance Center on Sullivan Road in Sullivan Park, Spokane Valley.
