Parker McCollum is a native of Conroe, Texas, and grew up listening to classic country artists like Willie Nelson, red dirt players like Chris Knight, and folk/rock/pop icon Bob Dylan. The biggest influence on McCollum was probably George Strait, whom Parker describes as his hero for his nontraditional approach to country music. He has covered several of Strait’s songs.
He started writing music when he was 13 and released his first album, “The Limestone Kid,” in 2015, following that up with 2017’s “Probably Wrong.” Neither album performed particularly well, but his third effort, “Gold Chain Cowboy,” which dropped in 2021, was certified Gold by the RIAA. His latest effort, 2023’s “Never Enough,” has hit both the U.S. and the U.S. Country charts.
“Never Enough” was produced by Jon Randall, who also produced “Gold Chain Cowboy,” and works with Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert. Randall and McCollum are definitely on the same wavelength, which results in albums that demonstrate the artist’s attitude and honesty, and are equal parts country and rock guitar. A review of McCollum in concert says:
“He was such a sweetheart, has an amazing voice, and puts on an entertaining performance.”
Parker McCollum will be at the Spokane Arena in Spokane, Spokane Valley’s next-door neighbor, on January 18. Events like this can be successfully publicized when organizers use poster printing to create advertising.
