The City Council of Spokane Valley understands that many organizations and individuals in the community are contributing greatly to the life of the city, and would like to have these contributions recognized. In order to honor the organizations, businesses, and people who are making a difference, the council recently announced the implementation of its Community Recognition Program.
Even though they may not be celebrities, or well-known, the council believes their efforts should be acknowledged and encouraged. For that purpose, members of the community are invited to nominate those people and organizations that have made positive impacts on the city, or have made other significant contributions to Spokane Valley life.
Mayor Rod Higgins will make the final selection of those to be honored, and his selections will then be confirmed by the City Council. Those honored in this way will be invited to a meeting of the mayor and city council, where they will be introduced to others in the community. Depending on their contribution, they will receive either a Key to the City, a certificate of appreciation, or a proclamation.
The city will accept nominations at any time, and further information is available on the city's website, as is a nomination form.
Measures like this impact an entire community, some of whom may not be online, so officials could work with a flyer printing company to help outline the program.
