Renton to improve recycling program
The Recycling Partnership and the Washington State Department of Ecology are working with the city of Renton to help residents improve their habits of recycling.
A recycling cart tagging project is being launched this month that aims to improve the quality of recycle items in single stream recycling bins that are placed on the curb. This program will provide real-time and personalized feedback and education on recycling to residents.
Flyer printing can be used to provide residents with more details and information about such new programs.
The Solid Waste and Sustainability Division of the Public Works Department of the city is spearheading this campaign which is funded by the Washington State Department of Ecology with additional help from The Recycling Partnership, which is a non-profit organization. The goal is to improve recycling practices by decreasing the amount of materials that are contaminated and often found in recycled items.
Sustainability Specialist with the city of Renton, John MacGillivray, expressed his excitement about partnering with The Recycling Partnership and the Department of Ecology in this endeavor. He said that the assistance of these two departments will help to keep the curbside program sustainable and affordable.
Statewide Recycling Coordinator with the Department of Ecology, Dan Weston, also expressed his excitement about being able to provide personalized feedback to residents on how to properly recycle.
