The Stoneway Dock Company had been located on the lot in the 1930s. In the 1950s, the company was changed to Stoneway Sand and Gravel. It was a site for the manufacturing of asphalt and concrete until October 2022.
This will add about 12.5 acres to the existing park, which spans 23 acres. This will also increase public access to the riverfront and the recreational opportunities in the city and transform the site from its previous purpose as an industrial site. News of such acquisitions and their benefits for the community are often made known with flyer printing.
The project meets the goals of the business plan of the city to provide a healthy, safe, and vibrant community as well as foster environmental preservation and safety. The Administrator of Parks and Recreation, Maryjane Van Cleave, said:
“This property gives us the opportunity to honor commitments made nearly two decades ago-now brought to life through a modern vision shaped by our community's input.”
