Renton receives special recognition for urban forestry
The Evergreen Communities Recognition Program has been launched in Renton.
This is a program whose goal is to celebrate and recognize the tribal lands, counties, cities, and towns in Washington state for the outstanding management programs of urban and community forestry.
The participation of the city in this program highlights its importance and commitment to creating a high quality of life for its residents as a place to work, live, and play while also affirming the importance of the role of in long-term sustainability and environmental health.
Mayor Armondo Pavone said that a great deal of importance is placed on the management of the trees in the city, and it is considered an essential public service equal to that of maintaining the parks, roads, and other infrastructure.

Since 2007, Renton has been a Tree City USA. Lat year the city qualified fir its 13th Growth Award. Now that it is an Evergreen Community, the city has demonstrated that it goes above and beyond the requirements for being a Tree City USA.
The Evergreen Communities program is a partnership of the Parks and Recreation Department and the Department of Natural Resources of the city. Both will continue to maintain and protect its trees and ensure a high quality of life for its residents.
