Bees and other pollinators can be an essential part of a successful orchard, and during an Olympia workshop, attendees will have a chance to discover how mason bees can benefit their operation.
Mason bees, which are native to the area, can be extremely effective pollinators. Those who participate in the event will learn more about them, including how to attract them to their property and encourage them to stay.
Journeyman Bee Keeper Tim Wieble will be leading the class, and he will discuss how these tiny but hardworking insects can help to increase yields of fruits, vegetables, and other crops. As they do not sting and tend to be “low maintenance”, they are often easy to welcome onto a property, and he will give practical tips on how to ensure they decide to stay and also increase their numbers.
The presentation will include time for questions from the attendees, and there is no fee being charged to be included in the morning of learning. A printing services provider in the area will be able to supply any printed materials needed for this type of event.
The Eastside Urban Farm and Garden Center will be hosting the mason bee workshop, and it will start at 10:00 on Saturday, February 24. The center’s website includes both more details and a link to register for anyone who is interested in taking part.
