While many may be aware of foraging for wild foods in rural areas, they may be surprised to know that Mother Nature also offers a bounty in urban areas for those who know how, when and where to look.
Those who are interested in living a more sustainable lifestyle or who just want to expand their palate alike may enjoy the opportunity to get their feet when it comes to urban forgoing that has been planned for Olympia. It will depart from the Olympian Food Co-op located at 921 Rogers Street Northwest, and will run for three hours.
Participants in the walking workshop will learn how to find edible plants in a city environment, and they will find out when is the best time to make a harvest. The ethics and legalities of forging will be discussed, and everyone will receive tips for making use of wild vegetables in the home kitchen. Comfortable shoes and suitable clothing for the outing are highly recommended, and Melany Vorass Herrera, who is the author of “The Front Yard Forager” will be the facilitator for the afternoon.
Living a sustainable lifestyle doesn't have to be hard, and a workshop can help point the way. Field guides, ID tips sheets and other resource materials for an activity can be prepared by Stationery printers.
This opportunity to discover the fun of urban foraging will be held on June 1st. Tickets are $7.00 each.
