Olympia walk to introduce birds

It’s possible to spot a variety of birds even in an urban area, and two dates have been set for an Olympia activity that offers this experience.

The Puget Sound Estuarium will be leading a birding walk that will visit the city’s downtown on the hunt for birds. Both year round residents and migratory species may be spotted, and the attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about these feathered friends.

As well as the chance to do some birding, those who come out will be learning about current restoration projects and also collecting data. They will walk to Capitol Lake and West Bay before looping back to the starting point at the Estuarium. There will be stops along the way to make observations, and all ages are welcome. Members of the Puget Sound Estuarium will be offered a discount.

Along with the birding walk, the participants will be able to visit the Marine life Discovery Center for free. Data recording sheets, lifer lists and other custom printed Stationery products can be prepared by a printer, and they can be paired with promotional Pens to hand out during a citizen science session.

The upcoming dates for the Urban Birding initiative are August 25 and October 27th. They will both set out from 309 State Avenue in Northeast Olympia at 9:00 am, and tickets start at $15.00 for adults, with kids 12 and under welcome to take part free of charge.
