Olympia urban garden set to welcome visitors

When people think of growing vegetables for food, they often assume they need a large plot of land, but an Olympia homeowner has turned that idea on its head. Joyce and Stephen Kilmer will be opening their garden’s gate to members of the Master Gardener Foundation of Thurston.

Located just six blocks away from the state’s Capitol, this urban farm is home to various types of fruit, vegetables, honey, and even chickens. Most of its lawn has been converted to garden beds, and the owners will offer tips for how those on the tour can do the same.

The event is open only to those who are members of the Master Gardeners foundation of Thurston, and memberships can be obtained through its website. The participants will find out how they can use the gardening methods at home, and they will also create their own lavender project.

Those who plan on attending are reminded to dress for the weather and be ready to ask questions. Leaflets that contain more information about urban gardening can be prepared to give to those who participate in this sort of function, and a brochure printing company can be called upon to perform this service.

Joyce Kilmer’s Garden, which is located at 122 21st Avenue in Olympia, will be welcoming guests on June 29, starting at 10:00 am. Anyone who would like to learn more has been invited to visit the event’s listing.
