After a couple of years without one, the Olympia School Districts has a brand new Student Resource Officer.
The position had been unfilled for about a year, but it was decided that there was now enough funding in the budget to reinstate the position.
When he heard about the opening, Officer Tim Bronson, who has 24 years of experience on the force, was very interested. He had been a Student Resource Officer in Olympia’s elementary schools for several years, so knew what to expect.
His duties start early in the day, when he Checks the school and surrounding neighborhood to make sure all is well. Once the students begin to arrive, he will greet them at the door and then spend his days giving presentations to classes, moderating minor issues between students, and looking in to cases of unexplained long-term absenteeism.
Another big part of his role is to help to build a sense of trust between the kids and the police, making them feel that they can come to him if they have a problem.
He will be spending most of his time at the high school, but will also be visiting Reeves Middle School and six elementary schools in the area.
Having an officer in the school in a role such as this can make a big difference in the overall climate of the school. Brochure printers can create pamphlets that he or she can hand out to the students during their classroom presentations.Get a Free Quote for Checks
