Olympia fledgling birders offered online assistance

The change of lifestyle caused by the pandemic has led many Olympia residents to take up bird watching, and birders new and old are invited to access a new online service.

The Black Hills Audubon Society has set up a brand new way for locals to earn their birding wings, and it hopes it will be a valuable community resource. It will be manned by knowledgeable volunteers, and the goal is to help everyone enjoy learning more about their feathered friends.

The group explained that anyone who has questions, needs help with avian identification, or who would like to learn more about how they can attract birds to their yard can reach out to its new email address, which will offer a hotline-style service to the public. Local property owners can find out more about how they can become environmental stewards, and as the organizer pointed out, the more people who enjoy birding as a hobby, the more advocates there will be for protecting and nurturing outdoor spaces.

Letting the public know about this sort of service plays a big role in its success. A marketing campaign using materials created by local Print shops can help, and they can offer promotional items at a variety of price points.

The Black Hills Audubon Society’s new birder hotline can be reached at questionsforBHAS@gmail.com. Anyone who would like to learn more about the group and its efforts in the community can do so by visiting its website.
