Clever twist on classic fairytale to start this weekend

Cinder Edna is a new musical is by Ted Ryle and is based loosely on the charming fairy tale of Cinderella. Starting this weekend in Olympia, this is a world premier musical and is based on the book written by Ellen Jackson, as is directed by Kate Ayers, with the music and lyrics created by Miriam Sterlin, Mandy Ryle, Ted Ryle, and Rich Sikorsky. It is a play suitable for the whole family – something that will no doubt be highlighted via flyer printing.

In the musical, it would seem that Cinder Edna does not mope around and feel sorry for herself, and has much better things she wants to do than sit around and clean up ashes. Cinder Edna is Cinderella’s next door neighbor, and both have evil and cruel stepmothers, as well as nasty stepsisters, although they appear to have a different approach to life and how they handle things.

Cinder Edna, unlike Cinderella, does not at all believe there is a ‘Fairy Godmother’, so instead saves her hard-earned money and puts a dress for the fancy ball on layaway. In the end, the two girls end up with very different outcomes.

Tickets cost $16 per adult, $13 per senior or military, and $12 for kids under 12. Cinder Edna will be performed from tomorrow, May 24, to Sunday, June 9, at the Washington Center in Olympia.
