Animal antics entertain crowds in Olympia

Olympia streets were recently taken over in what has become a traditional event.

For more than 20 years, the city has played host to the annual Procession of the Species, where people dress in colorful animal costumes and parade along the procession’s route, which wound its way through the city at the end of April.

Crowds came out to enjoy and cheer on the participants, who were decked out in costumes ranging from a happy sun to a tricycle-powered fish, a rhino, a lion, and a 20-foot tall giraffe. A banner printing company can create decorations that can make such an event even more festive.

The creator of the giraffe, Jerry Berebitsky, noted that this will be the last year in which he will use this puppet, and next year he will have something new. Though not willing to reveal what it will be, he hinted that he has been looking into the possibilities of huge dragonfly with a wingspan of 16 feet.

Plenty of people came out to enjoy the yearly parade. The event organizer, Eli Sterling, remarked that while there was a decline in the number of those registered to take part, some left it until the last minute and the numbers, though lower than last year, were still high enough to make the event a success.
