Kirkland officials hope to make the city's Rose Hill neighborhood more friendly to pedestrians, and will soon consider two proposals for mixed-use developments in the area.
The first is a Madison Development Group project that would spread 1.09 million square feet of space over 10 buildings to be built on Northeast 85th Street. At present, a strip mall is on the site, and is home to several businesses included a Dollar Tree and a PetCo.
The project would create 88,000 square feet of space earmarked for commercial use, and as many as 650 apartments on the plot, which comprises almost seven acres. According to plans, at least half the first-floor space will be available for restaurants, retailers, taverns, or even a hotel.
The second proposed development would also be on Northeast 85th Street near 132nd Avenue. This project is a mixed-use development by Merit Homes, to be known as The Continental Divide. Merit would construct a four-story building to house both residents and retailers, and 7,500 square feet of space for commercial uses would be set aside in the building, which would also offer 133 apartments. Developers of projects like this have a chance to consider a new Logo Design as part of the planning process.
Speaking on behalf of the city, Adam Weinstein, Kirkland’s deputy planning director, said officials are aware of residents' concerns that the developments would bring increased traffic, stating the city is trying to improve public transit in the area. Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
