Summer brings music to Kirkland

Warm summer nights seem made for music, and Kirkland officials agree.

The Kirkland Downtown Association Summer Concert Series is back with a lineup of artists who bring pop, rock, and country to the city. Events like this can draw audiences when organizers use flyer printing to create handouts to distribute locally.

First up is Laurel Canyon, a group named after the famous neighborhood in Los Angeles where musicians like the Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and more lived and worked in the 1960s and 1970s. The group sings pop songs that defined the era.

Herding Cats appears next. The trio comprises Jon Bolton, Dune Butler, and Mike Mattingly. They are based in Seattle and are a cover band playing classic rock. They are known for their high-energy shows in which they frequently take requests, and blend musicianship with humor.

The next week brings EDEN. Savanna Woods, who appeared on “The Voice,” fronts the band, which is based in the Pacific Northwest and plays pop, blues, and rock. Woods’ voice is backed by bassist Ethan Gibbons, drummer Jason Edwards, and Aaron Hiebert playing electric guitar.

The month ends with Christie Huff, a country songwriter and singer from Arizona who honed her craft with trips to Nashville, where she co-wrote material with other country artists. She has performed at historic venues such as The Viper Room.

Laurel Canyon plays July 10, Herding Cats July 17, Eden on July 24, and Christie Huff on July 31, all at Marina Park.
