Folk/pop artist comes to Kirkland

A singer/songwriter from California is on the way to Kirkland.

Brett Dennen is a folk/pop artist who has seven studio albums to his credit, releasing the latest, “See the World,” in 2021.

He grew up in Central California and learned to play the guitar as a child. He was also young when he started writing songs. He attended Camp Jack Hazard, where camp counselors played Joni Mitchell, John Denver, and Neil Young, the same singers his parents enjoyed, deepening his love for the artform.

When he attended college, he majored in philosophy and sociology, intending to become a teacher, educator, or community worker. He also wrote music with friends, an effort that evolved into a jam band where he played the flute, hand drum, bass, and acoustic guitar. Soon after graduating, he moved to Los Angeles.

It was there that he released his first album, “Brett Dennen,” in 2004, on an independent label. He was later signed by DualTone Records. Other career highlights include his opening for John Mayer in 2008, and his song “Darlin’ Do Not Fear,” from his “So Much More” album, being used in “Sherman’s Way,” an award-winning indie film.

A concert review says:

“He presents with a bit of awkwardness and goofiness and that reflects a realism I always appreciate.”

Brett Dennen will be at the Kirkland Performance Center on June 11. Organizers of events like this often help increase attendance by using poster printing to advertise them.
