An upcoming event will give participants a chance to welcome the new year from a different viewpoint, on horseback.
The Lake Washington Saddle Club has organized the upcoming Trail Ride 2026 to get the new year off to a good start. The ride is part of the “First Day Hike” program that is taking place at state parks throughout the country. The saddle club is working with the park to promote the equestrian community.
Riders can take part at any time between 11.00 am and 2.00 pm. The route is the Coyote Loop Trail, which is approximately 3.5 miles long and takes about an hour to finish. Permanent posts mark the trail, making it easy to follow. Some of the posts have “You Are Here” maps on top, which also provide directions to the parking lot. The trail is well-maintained and fairly wide, and its condition, plus the signage, makes it a good place for a winter ride.
The ride is free, and park passes are not necessary. Refreshments including snacks, hot chocolate, coffee, and carrots for the horses will be available at no cost. A raffle will be held with three winners receiving annual 2026 Discover Passes.
The ride is set for New Year’s Day, January 1, at Bridle Trails State Park in Kirkland, weather permitting. Organizers are asking participants to register so they can plan appropriately. Organizers can promote events like this by using poster printing to create colorful advertising.
