Fans can expect to hear favorites like “I Walk the Line,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and “Ring of Fire.” The tribute band is noted for their ability to capture the powerful storytelling ability and deep emotion that were hallmarks of a Johnny Cash performance.
The Men in Black performs different shows. When Shawn Baker is performing as Johnny Cash, he puts on a full theatrical show backed by a professional band. There is also a female group who perform a tribute to the Carter Sisters.
Shawn Baker is a native of St. Louis who got started singing in church, playing in school band, and then gigging around coffee houses. In 2004, Baker auditioned to play Elvis Presley in “Million Dollar Quartet,” a Broadway show. Floyd Mutrux, the director, asked him to audition for Cash instead, and won the part immediately. Mutrux said:
“We have 100 people who can play Elvis, but we only have one that can play Johnny Cash.”
Baker has since toured the world with his tribute band, who will appear November 13, at 7.00 pm. The Kirkland Performance Center is located at 350 Kirkland Avenue. When they schedule shows like this, organizers will often work with a printer who can use brochure printing to create programs.
