Traditional Celtic celebration planned near Kirkland

Irish and Scottish dancing, stories, and traditional carols are all part of a holiday celebration planned for Medina, a short distance from Kirkland.

The Beggar Boys are planning to perform traditional Christmas music, bringing Wales, Scotland, and Ireland to the Pacific Northwest region. The Beggar Boys have created a unique sound by blending traditional melodies with original works, enhanced by vocalist Abigail Lennox. Guitar, whistle, and fiddles are played, and the artists, Lennox in particular, have won praise from sources such as the Boston Glove, which called the singer’s performances “lush and revealing.” Programs for events like this can be created using brochure printing.

Soprano Abigail Lennox is comfortable with genres as different as improvised avant-garde works and early plainchant. A Tennessee native, she attended the University of Michigan where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance. She finished her master’s in voice at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.

She has appeared in performances of “Mozart Vespers” with renowned conductor Sir Neville Marriner, and again with Sir David Willcocks. She enjoys teaching young musicians as well as pursuing a solo career.

In addition to the musical entertainment, there will be Irish step dancing, made famous worldwide by the show “Riverdance.” Storyteller Larry Young will also be on hand to share stories of the season.

“A Celtic Christmas with the Beggar Boys” is scheduled for December 19 from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Northeast 12th Street in Medina.
