Rock and soul legend coming to Kirkland

One of the original architects of soul music is coming to Kirkland.

Booker T. Jones is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and record producer. He is probably most known for his work as frontman of the Booker T. & the MGs, a Motown group that was the house band for legendary Stax Records. As a session band for Stax, the group worked with stars like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam & Dave. He is a recipient of the Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement. He has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After his days at Stax, Booker has played his legendary Hammond B3 organ on albums like “Stardust” by Willie Nelson, which went multi-platinum, and “Just As I Am” by Bill Withers, which featured “Ain’t No Sunshine,” a massive hit.

As a solo artist, Booker dropped “Potato Hole” in 2009 and “The Road from Memphis” in 2011; both won Grammys for Best Pop Instrumental Album. After 40 years, Booker went back to Stax and released his 2013 effort “Sound the Alarm.” In 2016, Booker created and premiered “Booker T. Presents: A Stax Revue,” a live show, which reflected the soul of Stax.

Booker T. Jones will be at the Kirkland Performance Center for two shows, on April 11 and 12, both at 7.00 pm. When performances like this are scheduled, concert organizers will often work with printers who use poster printing to create advertising.
