A celebrated jazz singer will appear in Kirkland.

Carrie Watts is bringing her unique style to the Northwest Cellars Winery on 124th Avenue in Kirkland soon.

Watts is originally from the East Coast, where she played viola in Summit, New Jersey, sang harmony in Dorset, Vermont, in a church choir, and played cornet in high school in a jazz band. However, it was not until 2001, while Watts was living near Indianola, Washington, that she discovered jazz singing. She took the ferry across Puget Sound from Indianola to Seattle and attended a workshop that introduce her to urban jazz. She fell in love with the artform immediately.

Her debut CD, “I’ll Get Around to It,” which she released in 2010, brought her to national attention. She followed up in 2012 with “Barely There,” and then in 2015, she released “Maybe.” In 2019, she released her fourth effort “Reverie.” Her work has led to three nominations for the Earshot Jazz Vocalist of the Year. Watts is known for her burnished, lustrous tone, her unmatched sense of phrasing, and her delivery, which is passionate and yet understated. Organizers of events like this can use brochure printing to create programs for their evenings.

Watts is also a composer and collaborator, and worked with Billy Brandt to produce eight variety shows known as the “Big Gig at the Triple Door.”
