Outdoor work event in Kirkland

Anyone who would enjoy a day working outside should consider an upcoming Green Kirkland event.

The Green Kirkland Partnership is the host for a day of environmental clean-up at Juanita Bay Park. Volunteers will remove invasive species such as ivy or blackberry, plant native plants, and perform stewardship tasks such as weeding and mulching, which help restore local habitat. Organizers will find flyer printing is a good method for creating handouts for this type of event.

People of all ages and experience are welcome to attend, but must follow specific health guidelines. First, everyone must register so organizers know what tools to bring and to ensure there is enough space to maintain minimum distance. Families who want to work together need to list the name of each volunteer but there is no team or group registration available.

Everyone is asked to wear a face covering whenever a minimum physical distance cannot be maintained. Face coverings are also required in indoor spaces. People are permitted to share tools when necessary, but gardening gloves should be worn. Cleaning supplies, a hand-washing facility, and hand sanitizer will be available. Organizers ask that anyone who feels ill stay home.

Volunteers should wear long sleeves, closed toed shoes, and long pants they do not mind getting dirty, and layer their clothes according to the weather. They should also bring snacks, water, and gloves; tools will be provided.

The event is set for February 9 from 10.00 am until 12.00 pm, rain or shine.
