Kiwanis schedules pancake breakfast

The Kiwanis Club of Kirkland has scheduled its annual pancake breakfast, an event that will offer performances by young local musicians.

Music has always been an important part of the day, and three groups are set to perform. First up is the Juanita High School Jazz Choir, which is directed by Lehua Pischke, who has been teaching for 24 years, off-and-on, in the district. The group is made up of students from ninth through twelfth grade.

After that, event attendees will hear from the Evergreen Middle School jazz ensemble, which is directed by Eric Peterson. The students come from sixth through eighth grade, with a repertoire that includes a wide range of styles, from heavy metal, to big band, to Latin.

The last act to perform is the Carillon Chamber Choir, which has performed at the tree lighting ceremony in Leavenworth for three years, and will be attending again this year. The group will be performing a variety of music, from the Renaissance to today’s pop.

The event will be held May 18, from 7:00 am until 12:00 noon, at St. John’s Episcopal Church on State Street South. The Juanita High School Jazz Choir performs from 8:00 am until 8:45 am; the Evergreen Middle School Jazz Ensemble plays from 9:00 am until 9:45 am; and the Carillon Chamber Choir takes the stage from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.
