Kirkland's Gina Casanova named EnhanceFitness Instructor of the Year

Gina Casanova, the EnhanceFitness instructor at the Peter Kirk Community Center in Kirkland, was honored recently with the 2018 Washington Instructor of the Year Award from EnhanceFitness and Sound Generations, according to an article in the Kirkland Reporter.

Casanova received the award for:

“going above and beyond the call of teaching”

She celebrated the honor at the community center late in July, in the company of her students.

The EnhanceFitness program was developed by Senior Services, based in Seattle, in partnership with the Group Health Cooperative and the University of Washington. The program is designed for people age 50 and above, who have many different levels of physical agility.

The program is inexpensive, featuring exercises and methods of preventing falls that help older people become more active, and more easily able to remain living independently. Classes are led by a certified instruction who is specially trained to help older adults get the most from an exercise program. The hour-long session begins with a warm up lasting about five minutes, an aerobics workout twenty minutes long, followed by a cool-down of five minutes. The class follows this with a strength-training workout twenty minutes long and ends with ten minutes of stretches.

The exercises used in the class focus on improving cardiovascular health, and increasing strength, flexibility, and balance.

Honors like this can be celebrated by using banner printing to decorate the venue.
