Early in April, 2017, DBM Contractors, which is working on the Kirkland Urban project, announced it had finished installing the center's excavation support system.
This means the project is on schedule, with phase one construction slated to be completed late in 2018 or early in 2019. Bill Leedom of Talon Investments said people can look forward to retailers opening in the new location during the first three months of 2019. The project first broke ground in the fall of 2016.
The anchor store for the retail spaces in phase one is QFC, a high-end grocery store. QFC will occupy 50,000 square feet, which is over twice the space it has in its current location. Once the first phase is finished, the first part of phase two, which is demolishing what is left of the Parkplace building (including the old QFC store), will begin.
Other tenants who are joining the first three in phase one include Evergreens Salads, HomeStreet Bank, and Bright Horizons daycare. Also confirmed for a space is Heavy Restaurant Group, which has several restaurants in operation around Seattle.
The first phase offers over 390,000 square feet of office space in two towers, 140,000 square feet for retailers, and over 1,700 parking spaces. There is also a 185-unit residence in the first phase, and Leedom says that a movie theater could move into phase two.
