Kirkland to host annual race

The 5K Kirkland Shamrock Run is coming up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, healthy living, and the City of Kirkland.

A tradition for many residents in the area, the event can be enjoyed by enthusiasts of Irish culture as they enjoy a run or walk through downtown Kirkland. Dogs as well as strollers are welcome along the route, but need to start at the back of the group of participants.

The Kirkland Shamrock Run course is certified by the USATF. It starts at Marina Park, follows Kirkland Way to 6th Street, turns left on 10 Avenue, turns right on Market Street, then makes it way to Waverly Beach Park and follows Waverly Way back to Marina Park. There are police and volunteers stationed along the way for emergencies and assistance. A post-race party at will be held at the Wilde Rover.

Proceeds of the Run will go to support several local high school booster clubs.

The Run will be held this Saturday, March 14 beginning at 9:00 am. The first ones to finish are expected to arrive by 9:15 am, with the final athlete expected to be finished by 11:00 am.
