Summerfest is the largest festival of food, music, and art that Kirkland celebrates during any given year. In 2017, the festival took place in mid-August at Marina Park, with other activities going on in Park Lane and in the city's downtown. The festival was free, and visitors could enjoy the work of musicians and artists from throughout the Puget Sound area.
The festival ran for three days with both performing and visual artists in attendance. There were activities for kids, spectator sports, and more than 100 food trucks and vendors on the downtown streets. Parents were encouraged to bring their children for the day, and then go the stage in the beer garden to dance at night.
Friday, the fun took place in Marina Park and on Park Lane; the entertainment was The Afrodisiacs, The Slacks, Redline, and Marilyn & the G Strings. Saturday activities were in Marina Park and in downtown; entertainment on that day included Hair Nation, Hall Pass Band, Blues with Benefits, and Vote for Pedro. The bands played a wide range of music, from classic rock to country to bluegrass.
Sunday, festival attendees were able to enjoy a juried art show on Park Lane, a nice way to wind down the festivities. People are already looking forward to next year's fun.
