Like many other communities, Kirkland is planning a citywide celebration for the 4th of July.
The 24th “Celebrate Kirkland” party will take place over several hours, in the city’s downtown, and is family friendly. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs if they like, and stand or sit along the streets in the business district to enjoy processions from government officials, music and dance groups, local businesses, and more.
There are two parades – a Kids’ Parade and the Main Parade. This year, the Kids’ Parade has been moved slightly, from the pavilion at Marina Park to the Lakeshore Plaza area. The new area has more room for the youngsters to spread out and decorate their wagons, strollers, trikes, and bikes.
The Kids’ Pavilion opens at 10:30 am, and they have 45 minutes to decorate, as they are to line up at 11:15 am. The Kids’ Parade steps off at 11:30 am, and is limited to children and their immediate families. In addition, it is only for biking, walking, or pulling wagons. The Main Parade follows it at 12:00 noon.
Kirkland no longer celebrates Independence Day with fireworks, because it has noted that can be a fire danger, causing discomfort to animals, the environment, and even people.
The date is of course July 4, and organizers of such events can use banner printing to create holiday Banners to decorate downtown.
