Kirkland mail gets a makeover

CenterCal Properties recently broke ground on the Totem Lake Mall in Kirkland, after demolishing its main building earlier, this year to build the new The Village at Totem Lake.

According to CenterCal, there will be 800,000 square feet of new and renovated space, with a Whole Foods Market, 40,000 square feet in size, that will serve as the anchor for the property. There will also be 850 high-end apartments, retail space, restaurants, and a luxury theater.

According to the economic development manager for the city, Ellen Miller-Wolfe, this new development will be exciting as it will bring a state-of-the-art mall to the city. The retail space and the apartments will help to reincarnate the area, she added.

There will be amenities for the public that will include a play area for children, a 23,400-square-foot plaza and lawn, outdoor dining, a deck, and a pavilion. If CenterCal meets certain requirements, the city will pay for $15m of these improvements.

One building that was not in the lower part of the mall will have its exterior modernized.

The project will be done in phases, with work the upper part of the mall to take place during the second phase.
