What's Happening in Kirkland, WA…

On December 27, 2016, the administrative staff of Kirkland, Washington’s Parks and Community Services department began moving from its offices on Market Street into the city hall building. The move should be finished some time in January, 2017, given that a number of people are on vacation around the holidays.

Kirkland has remodeled its city hall, and the parks and community services staff members, along with human services, the administrative staff of the recreation division, the Green Kirkland Partnership, and special events, will all now be found in the hall's lower level.

According to Tracey Dunlap, the deputy city manager, Kirkland wanted to centralize all its city services, which involves bringing the parks department back to the remodeled building. The Market Street office, which they have occupied since 2002, was supposed to be only temporary, and now that the renovations are finished, the departments can consolidate, making city hall a one-stop shop for residents.

Kirkland plans to put the Market Street property up for sale, and use a part of the money realized from the sale to fund a women's and children's emergency shelter.

Although the administrative staff members of the parks and community services department are moving, other parks department people, including those at the Peter Kirk Community Center, the North Kirkland Community Center, and the Parks Maintenance Center, will remain in place.
