Funds sought for native plants for green event

The Kirkland Parks Foundation recently announced that it will be collaborating with the Green Kirkland Partnership on the city to finance plants for Green Kirkland Day.

Donations are being sought to cover the costs of shrubs, trees, and groundcover nature to the area, such as sword fern, salmonberry, and Woods’ rose. An estimate of $4,000 is the cost for all the plants, with the Green Kirkland Partnership providing $1,500 and needing to raise another $2,500. These plants will fill areas that have recently been cleared of invasive blackberry and ivy.

The plants will grow over time and mature into a healthy forest, and provide food and habitats for wildlife and natural areas, as well as clean air for residents. These plants will be maintained by volunteers.

The funds need to be raised by August 31. The Kirkland Parks Foundation may be working with local a Print company to print Flyers and other informative materials about the project so as to contribute donations of any amount to the project.

The first Green Kirkland Day will be held on November 14 at Crestwoods Park Forest. The focus of the day is to celebrate the accomplishments of the Partnership, the hard work of its volunteers throughout the year, and to plant the native plants for which the money was raised in several of the natural area parks in Kirkland.
