Festive race scheduled near Kirkland

A fun run has been scheduled for the Kirkland area, with proceeds going to a good cause.

The Winter Wonderland 5K and Lil' Reindeer 1K is a timed walking and running event designed to be family-friendly and fun. It is the fourth in the Bellevue Holiday 5K Series of races, and participants can take part in as many events as they wish. Part of the money raised at the event will go to support Jubilee REACH. The route of the race is fast and flat, and the event is chip timed. The vast majority of the route goes through parkland, avoiding traffic, and participants of all ages and physical abilities are welcome.

Jubilee REACH is a local organization where members serve as adult allies for students in local schools, as well as helping families in need. Among the services it provides are mobile dental clinics, supplying home furnishings, providing financial assistance, and conducting ESL (English as a second language) classes.

Prizes will be given to overall winners, as well as being awarded in each age class. There will also be prizes for the best costume (runners traditionally dress as yetis), and all participants will be given a commemorative medal. In addition, those who pre-register will be given a T-shirt.

The events will take place December 12 in Bellevue, a short distance from Kirkland. The last day to pre-register is December 6. Banner printing can be used to create course markers for this type of event.
