Celebrating pop music in Kirkland

An upcoming concert in Kirkland will celebrate a pivotal moment in the history of pop music.

Laurel Canyon Legacy provides a look back at the 1960’s music that exploded from Laurel Canyon in Los Angeles. The sound that swept across the country was created when rock and folk mixed and turned from acoustic to electric instrumentation.

Laurel Canyon was home to numerous artists from throughout the country and around the world. Among its residents were Frank Zappa, Linda Ronstadt, Glenn Frey, Graham Nash, David Crosby, and many others.

Groups that developed from this setting created the signature sound of the 1960s and 1970s. They include The Monkees, The Doors, Buffalo Springfield, the Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and many others. The iconic songs of these groups are now performed by Laural Canyon Legacy.

Laurel Canyon Legacy was established in 2001 and is based in Seattle. The current lineup comprises vocalist Leah Harris, drummer Jeff Lockhart, bassist Rick Jones, Jakael Tristram on guitar, and Chuck Dorsett on keyboards. Their setlist includes hits like “I Feel the Earth Move” by Carole King, “Hotel California” by The Eagles, “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon, and many more.

Laurel Canyon Legacy will be at the Kirkland Performance Center on April 5, where they will perform “Tapestry,” Carol King’s album, in its entirety. When they plan events like this, organizers may work with brochure printing to create programs for the audience, who enjoy learning about the performers.
