Geeman Yip of Kirkland-based BitTitan made an appearance at the Seattle Startup Week Conference from November 14 to 18, and spoke to technology website Tech.Co while there.
Yip talked about the years he had spent bootstrapping his tech company in the community. BitTitan completed their first round of funding in June, and received $15m from TVC Capital, based in San Diego.
BitTitan works to help businesses upgrade their services to cloud-based technology, instead of onsite technology. In speaking to Tech.Co, Yip stated that the cloud is much more secure than onsite storage, and that his company sees cloud computing as the future of business. In fact, he spoke to Seattle Startups attendees the Monday regarding ‘Bootstrapping without Being Strapped’, and ‘Perks Don’t Define Culture, So What Does?’
Yip also spoke to Tech.Co about his experience bootstrapping his business. Bootstrapping refers to using debt or personal savings to build a company, rather than immediately seeking out venture capital. Yip said it was a difficult but fulfilling experience, especially once he made his first sale.
For many attendees at business conferences, bringing premium Business Cards is a given. Even though everyone at a tech conference has a smartphone, there is still not a universal app that makes sharing contact information easy. Handing out a business card is often the best way to connect.
