Artistry gets busy in Kirkland

The arrival of the New Year means many new and exciting programs at the Kirkland Arts Center.

The Center is holding a variety of classes for the winter quarter, some of which are new and some are favorites that are returning.

New classes include Photoshop Design Helper and Introduction to Chinese Landscaping. Also being offered is Fused Dichroic Glass Jewelry for making wearable art and Mini Mural Family workshops, Teen Ceramics, and Teen Animation for teens and families.

A new exhibit, ‘Secrets Can…’, recently opened and showcases selected pieces from numerous local artists that demonstrate the breadth and depth of what is hidden beneath the surface of the people around us. It was curated by Rebecca Fronczak, a Museology graduate student in the Emerging Curator Initiative at the University of Washington.

With some major improvements made to the Peter Kirk Building, the home of Kirkland Arts Center, during 2015, one project planned for 2016 is seismic retrofits to improve the safety and longevity of the building.

In addition, the Center will continue to hold its ArtLuck on the third Friday of the month. At this event, artists meet to share a meal, participate in peer exercises and critiques, or listen to fun art lectures.

Newsletter printing is one way the Kirkland Arts Center can inform the artist community and others about these events, activities, and classes so as to potentially increase donor contributions to the Center.
